The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) organised a workshop on “Shale Gas in Europe: A Transdisciplinary Approach” on May 21st and 22nd 2014. The participants came from Germany, the USA, the UK, France, Poland and Ukraine, and included representatives from the scientific world, government, civil society and industry. The workshop aimed to identify and assess the main aspects of a potentially emerging shale gas industry in Europe while facilitating communication amongst stakeholders.

The key facts, arguments and open questions that marked the discussions are summarised in the Workshop Statement. Additionally, several participants shared their views on the shale gas debate and on specific issues pertaining to their area of expertise through a series of video interviews.
