Induced Seismicity
Induced seismicity is usually understood as microseismicity resulting from human activity and is well known from operations such as coal mining, valley dammed reservoirs and deep fluid injection as applied in geothermal well stimulation. It may occur during shale gas operations where it is related to the process of hydraulic fracturing. Although usually of small magnitude, induced seismic activity needs to be addressed in order to improve operational best practices in shale gas developments.
